Three signs that the apocalyse is upon us:
(1) Apple announced today that it will allow its computers to run Windows XP. (Sacrilege!)
(2) Katie Couric is leaving NBC for CBS Evening News.
(3) The sky in Manhattan is literally green this morning. Back in Minnesota that meant one thing: get in the basement 'cause a tornado is coming. What's up with the green sky and severe weather, which is coming down as a mix of pouring rain and huge, wet flakes of snow at the same time?
Well, it's been raining here in SF for 30 days straight. Not a day with out it. It's sucking, and that, my friend, is the end of my world! I am seriously going into depression. But kudos to Katie....I think she'll be great! And I love Meredeth (if she accepts the job)!!

hrm....green sky eh? Yeah....i'd probably be running for my basement. What would one who lives in manhattan even DO if a tornado were coming?

The only place a tornado could really form in Manhattan would be in Central Park. There's no other place in the land with a sufficient amount of flat land. And if it left the park, it wouldn't last very long. The buildings that ring the park (and for that matter, 99% of the building in the city) are made of conrete and steel, and while a few windows might get blow out, the tornado would lose cohesion before it could get much beyond a block.
So if there was a tornado in Manhattan, you would avoid the Park.

Actually, Jud, tornados have hit downtowns with tall buildings before, like Fort Worth and Salt Lake. Of course, the odds of that happening in New York are super small, unless they're spun off by a hurricane. But if NYC was getting hit by a hurricane, we'd have worse things to worry about. I didn't notice it being all that green this morning, but I have had moments here over the years where I thought the sky looked pretty darn ominous.

Are they seriously debating a tornado hitting NYC? We have bigger things to worry about with Microsoft taking over the world.

Not to be silly -- but do you get Tornados in New York? I am from the West Coast, and we get them on occasion in Central Oregon, but that's it. I lived in the midwest for several years, and we practically lived in the basement in the Spring.
