Josh & Josh Weekend: Birthdays, Prop 8, and R&R
On Friday night Josh K and I did double birthday party madness. We started at Fusion in Hell's Kitchen with our friend Eric's 3Xth birthday party and, after generally manhandling the birthday boy and his charming boyfriend, we scooted over to Bamboo 52 for the birthday of our very talented writer friend, Tom.
Saucy minx? Indeed.
As 2 a.m. approached, a half dozen of us (including the birthday boy and his adorable boyfriend--apparently boys with November birthdays have great boyfriends or something) decided that late-night breakfast was duly required. We made our way to Renaissance, a diner around the corner, and several of us, including yours truly, went balls out and ordered the lumberjack breakfast.
I ate all of mine.
And then helped the people around me.
I'm a good friend like that.
Finally, well after 3 a.m., I informed Josh K that there was no way I was taking the train back to Brooklyn. By 4 a.m. I was crashed out on an air mattress on his floor. (All glamour, all the time. You know it.)
On Saturday morning I hauled my cookies back to Brooklyn to shower, change clothes, grab a sandwich, and then I was back on a train to Manhattan, this time headed for City Hall for the protest against Prop 8.
We showed up early . . .
. . . and by the time things got rolling at 1:30, Broadway was packed with thousands of protesters.
We took a break to smile for the camera in between fighting the H8 and waving at bus after packed bus of tourists passing the protest, some thrilled and waving at the massive crowd, others pretending to be very busy with pamphlets and maps and things. But the majority? They totally loved us. ("Jim, look at all those gays! Herb and Helen are never gonna believe us when we tell 'em!")
We had an endlessly supply of cute couples to ogle. Completely adorable.
Josh and I met up with our friends Jason and Kourtney at the protest and, afterward, our little posse trekked over to Manatus on Christopher St. for brunch (suitably gay, no?) and washed it all down with hot cider at 'sNice, one of our favorite coffee shop hangouts in the West Village. Combined with the energy of the protest and the gorgeous 67-degree weather (in mid-November, no less), it ended up being a pretty ideal day.
And on Sunday, the Joshes rested.
There were assorted adventures in magazines, books, DVR, apartment cleaning (um, well, some at least), a dance class, and other Sundayish activities. No obligations, no schedules. Perfection.
All in all, not a bad weekend. Here's to more like 'em.

Cute couples dressed exactly like you guys! ...And let's just hope the protests will have an effect too :)
